AG2R LA MONDIALE
The town’s archives mention the existence of Château Larmande as far back as 1585. It is said that the Jurats (the members of the Saint-Emilion Jurade) held their sessions there.
At the beginning of the last century, the estate was given as a wedding present to Alice Capdemourlin and Fernand Meneret. Three dedicated generations were to follow them at Château Larmande.
Jean Meneret sold the estate to the La Mondiale insurance group, which later became AG2R La Mondiale (also the owners of Châteaux Soutard and Château Petit Faurie de Soutard, both Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés, and Château Grand Faurie La Rose, a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru).
Since the 2018 vintage, we have aged 10% of our wine in amphora. As terra cotta is porous, the micro-oxygenation of the wine brings a smooth texture and maintains its fruit aromas.
In this year we gained the HVE Level 3 label (High Environmental Value). This certifies that our vine-growing is bio-diversity-friendly. Several of our vineyard practices are eco-friendly, such as the use of horse-drawn ploughs with our Percherons “Villa” and “Uranus”, sexual confusion pest control, mulching of vine prunings, and eco-responsible water management.
The grape composition is Merlot (65%), Cabernet Franc (30 %) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
The plots are located on Saint-Emilion’s northern slope and contain clay-limestone, clay-siliceous and sandy soils, 1 kilometre from Saint-Emilion’s medieval village.
