After a dry and rather mild winter (except in February), bud burst came early and made the most of almost summery conditions during the month of April (3.6°c higher than average). This resulted in the vine’s growth being well advanced at the flowering period, showing a generous harvest potential. The succession of changeable spells of weather, with warmth and coolness in the month of May led to quite a lot of flower abortion for the Merlots, which balanced out the production potential that is sometimes too high.
Rainfall was more frequent than heavy during the months of June and July ; this encouraged vine diseases to attack, particularly mildew : it was important to be in the vineyard regularly and keep a watchful eye.
As of the month of September, high pressure conditions settled durably and enabled to attain completely ripe grapes.
