Passionate about wine and winemaking, and a connoisseur of fine wine thanks to his background as a negociant, Justin Onclin achieved his dream by purchasing Villemaurine in June 2007. Desirous of creating his family vineyard holding, he was immediately impressed by the enormous potential of Chateau Villemaurine.
This jewel of a château, with seven hectares of vines in the heart of Saint-Emilion limestone plateau, combines centuries of history and an amazingly promising terroir.
As soon as he purchased the château, and replying on advice from a group of experts Justin Onclin set about bringing the wine up to the very highest level. Renovating was done with enormous attention to detail, in keeping with the prevailing philosophy of precision winemaking at Villemaurine. The estate’s relatively small size means that all the vineyard and cellar operations are tailor-made. Furthermore, state-of-the-art equipment was introduced in the new cellars and vat room.
Commited to making a wine typical of the finest terroir in Saint-Emilion, Justin Onclin is also interested in opening his estate to wine lovers from all around the world. Visitor centre, tasting areas and function rooms were created, in addition of the winemaking facilities. Villemaurine features a unique sound and light tour on the huge underground quarries and cellars combinating stories, historical narrative and scenography.
This means that above and beyond its fine wine, Château Villemaurine also offers visitors a venue, inbued with a unique atmosphere and special spirit well worth discovering.
