Château Fonroque

The history of the Jean Moueix family in Saint-Emilion started in 1931 when Alain’s great-grand parents bought Fonroque. The purchase was the start of a lovely long story, as over the years Fonroque has become a place full of wonderful memories and of great attachment for the Moueix family.
A few hundred metres to the north west of Saint-Emilion, the 17.6 hectare (47.7 acre) are located on a limestone plateau and on a limestone and clay slope. The conversion to organic farming started in 2003 (AGROCERT). And by the harvest of 2006 Fonroque was able to place the ‘AB’ (fully organic) logo on its labels. And from 2002, the biodynamic method has been extended from a small part of the estate to the entire estate, step by step. In 2005, Château Fonroque joined the « Syndicat de Vignerons en Biodynamie » BIODYVIN (ECOCERT). Château Fonroque is in biodynamic viticulture since 2008.

Château Fonroque wines reflect the perfect combination of elegance and mineral characteristics conferred by limestone soil, and the richness and silkiness provided by clay soil.
